So what else do we do with our horses? To stay in shape and be prepared for obstacles of all sorts, we expose our horses constantly to different tasks.
There is much work to be done here on the farm and we try to incorporate our horses as much as possible to break up the routine and prevent boredom.
We use our horses with many different farm implements, we snow plow to clear paths, harrow to keep pastures tidy, and spread manure to help fertilize pastures. Come summer when it's time to make hay we use a sickle bar mower to cut the hay, then rake it so that it can be baled and we even have a hay loader which is pulled over loose hay to be put up in the barn. Sounds like a lot of work but we also cheat and use a tractor!
Of course it's not all about work! We have loads of fun with them as well! They have a big pasture for playing in and many nights of grooming and treats! Our horses are a big part of our family and they are kept in good health by maintaining their feet, vaccinations, worming and providing good quality feed. Horses can be very loyal and trustworthy friends, but YOU must be a good friend to THEM as well!
